Art Pottery became a thriving enterprise in early 20th century America. Studios like Rookwood Pottery in Ohio, Newcomb in Louisiana, and Greuby and others in Massachusetts were producing innovative designs made possbile by the new techniques and formulas that were being pioneered at the turn of the century. 

The trend continued into the mid-20th century, when the Studio Craft movement took up the mantle and began to further experiment with hand throwing and experimental glazes in addition to toying with form and function.
