Albert Paley Sculptural Candlestick 1
American, 1989
Height: 20 1/4 inches (51.44 cm)
Width: 9 inches (22.86 cm)
Depth: 8 inches (20.32 cm)

A hand-forged sculptural candlestick by renowned Rochester metalsmith Albert Paley, comprised of ribbons of steel, perhaps reminiscent of a cattail and pond lily. This candlestick is #4 in a series of 20 that was commissioned by the defunct Dawson Gallery in Rochester to coincide with a 1989 exhibition of Paley's work; Paley is documented as thinking of piece as more of an example of sculpture than simply a functional candlestick. The candlestick is stamped on the base with signature, date and edition number.
