Poppy Table Lamp

Tiffany Studios <br> Poppy Table Lamp 1
Diameter: 20 inches
Height: 27 inches
American, circa 1906

An elegant Tiffany Studios Poppy Lamp comprising a 20-inch diameter Poppy shade, featuring mottled poppy flowers in shades of light to deep orange against a mottled green background. Probably designed by Clara Driscoll, famed Tiffany Girl and manager of the Women's Glass Cutting Department at Tiffany Studios, the shade utilizes pierced brass filigree to create a sense of depth. The brass filigree used to articulate the veins of the leaves along the lower edge of the shade is placed behind mottled green glass, mimicking the transparency of a delicate leaf, while the flower's center is formed by a piece of filigree placed on the surface of the glass, where the gilt metal catches the light. The shade is paired with the Twisted Vine base, an elegant naturalistic base in the Art Nouveau taste, in matching gilt patina; when the lamp was originally purchased at Tiffany Studios, this finish would have added an additional 25% to the cost of the lamp. Both the shade and the base of this original Tiffany lamp are signed.
