The Bookmark set was one of the more elaborately detailed sets produced by Tiffany Studios; each piece in the set features heavily modeled bronze motifs inspired by 15th and 16th century printer’s marks. The set was generally produced in a “dull gold” patina, as described in Desk Sets and Useful Articles, a promotional booklet distributed by Tiffany Studios around 1910.
Featuring a Tiffany & Co. clock face, this rare clock from the set features high and low relief depictions of symbols and pictorial devices used to identify a printing house or family, including botanical representations and monograms. The back of the clock, with a circular hinged door to allow access to the clock works, features stylized linear decoration.
This clock in gilt bronze is a rare example from the set featuring the addition of cold painted polychrome enamel on the areas of relief in deeply saturated tones including red, green and yellow, which further emphasize the sculptural motifs.
The clock retains its original winding key, held in a special slot on the inside of the hinged door, which also retains its original polychrome enamel decoration.
This exceptional Tiffany desk clock is signed and numbered on the underside.
