This Tiffany Favrile Glass Cabinet Vase is from a line described in archival materials as Tiffany Studios as “Byzantine,” though modern Tiffany glass collectors frequently refer to this style of vase as “Tel-el-Amarna.”
The rounded body and foot of this example are articulated in iridescent dark amber Tiffany glass, characterized by soft golden surface iridescence with hints of blue and purple where the neck meets the body. The straight neck with slightly everted rim rises from the body, in bright gold iridescent glass, decorated with a motif of overlapping zig-zags in green and amber, reminiscent of motifs found on ancient glass designs.
