This piece is an incredibly rare example of Tiffany Studios' work in wrought iron.
Tiffany Studios produced a variety of decorative and useful objects in both bronze and cast iron, including a range of “ferneries” or flower holders.
This rare example in wrought iron features a flat round base which supports three round balls with a hammered surface, each with a thin arcing stem which joins each piece to the thin central stem, recalling the form of a ripened fruit on a branch. The central stem is interrupted at two points by three small bud-like forms. At the top of the stem, four thin arms spiral outwards, each of which is terminated by a round bud-like form, to encircle a shallow pot with rounded sides which sits on a thin circular disc. The shallow pot is removable, allowing for easy maintenance of the plant.
This rare and unusual example of Tiffany Studios’ metalwork is signed.
